Keeping Ever Vigilant

Keeping Ever VigilantKeeping Ever Vigilant Keeping Ever Vigilant

Wrapped in a suffocating blanket of autumn colors, Doc Littleberry Batchlor’s old homestead keeps ever vigilant for a possible sighting of the old physician ambling down the red dirt road once more. A trip he made on more than one occasion quite possibly on his way home from making house calls in the rural Carolina Countryside. (2014)

Photographer’s Notes – The old abandoned Federal style Halifax County, NC home of Dr. Littleberry Batchlor is a favorite subject of mine. The home is a time capsule of the home’s chronological history that dates back before the Civil War. Artifacts can be found strewn about the house such as the shattered remains of an old chair dating back to late 1890’s, vintage garments dating back to the 1940’s and sporting magazines highlighting the golden age of American football in the 1960’s. Due it’s rapidly deteriorating condition, the home is best viewed from the outside and it is there that the venerable home doesn’t disappoint.
